  • Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the appearance of the labia minora. Common reasons for seeking this procedure are either functional complaints such as irritation, pulling, discomfort in clothing or during exercise or sexual intercourse or aesthetic complaints such as: displeasing asymmetry or embarrassment over the length of the labia minora.

    Procedure Information

    The procedure is usually performed in the office.

    Numbing cream and local anesthesia will be used. Depending on the anatomical complexity or patient

    preference, the procedure can also be done under general anesthesia in the operating room.

     All sutures used will be dissolvable and will not require removal.tion

  • There are various approaches to labiaplasty that will depend on your anatomy and a variety of factors. Some patients have clitoral hooding in addition to a lengthened labia minora and for superior results both problems need to be addressed. The type of incision and location will be discussed during your consultation.

  • When coming to your initial consultation, you should come prepared to discuss your complete medical history.

    This includes any previous surgeries, past and present medical conditions, allergies, and current medications,

    medical treatment you’ve received, and family history.

    During your consultation, an examination and photographs will be taken for your medical record and to examine your results. Dr. Sanam Zahedi will perform a full evaluation and discuss your desires and concerns.

    Treatment Plan: The information and recommendations that will be given to you by Dr. Sanam Zahedi will include the approach that will be used for your surgery (type or combination of procedures), anticipated outcome, financial aspects, associated risks and complications, anesthesia and surgery location options, preparations for before and after your surgery.

    In advance of your procedure, you will need to quit smoking at least 6 weeks before undergoing surgery in order to heal properly, avoid taking any sort of aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding, and lastly keep hydrated before and after your surgery.

  • The Day of Procedure Preoperative medications will be discussed with you during your consultation but make sure to take 1000mg of Tylenol an hour before your scheduled arrival. Sanam Zahedi will follow all parts of the plan that was discussed before your surgery, and after your procedure is complete, you will be taken into a recovery room. We ask that someone can drive you home so you can lie comfortably in the car on the ride home instead of sitting to avoid excessive swelling in the area.

  • As long as you follow the post-operative instructions, you will see results within two to three weeks of your surgery.

    NO sexual intercourse or tampons for 4 weeks

    NO saddle of any kind (horses vs bicycles) for 8 weeks

    Taking a week off work. Light activity for the first two weeks from the surgery date and can resume strenuous exercise 4 weeks from the surgery date.

    Provided, detailed instructions about potential complications and the normal symptoms you will or may experience.

    More surgical information and instructions will be provided in your patient packet.

    It is VERY IMPORTANT to know that recovery time is different and varies among each, individual patient.
